The idea to share my experience in improvising came up to me thanks to my dear teacher O. A. Abrin about 15 years ago. In point of fact, the academic system of education breeds bright artists and interpreters.

However, it’s a pity that improvisation is not included in such form of studying. At the same time there’s a huge demand for this skill among professional musicians and amateurs. To put it short, most of us would like to learn to play without notes. Also, it’s not necessary to specialize in jazz (even if it’s the currently accepted field for improvisation). Moreover, many times I’ve come across the fact that my colleagues have a strange attitude towards improvising. Some of them consider it to be a mysterious thing that is only accessible to those have an inborn talent. Others treat it as nothing of a big deal. They say that you can just play by the pentatonic scale and everything is going to be okay.

he wonderful artists who taught me a lot of things about improvisation and my determination were the things that drove me to success. As a result, quality was over quantity. The process of getting the smallest chunk of freedom took ages.
